Board Letter on State Funding for Salmon Recovery

11/29/2016  By Alex Conley

At its October Board of Director's meeting, the Board approved a letter to the Governor's Office in support of three state programs that support salmon, steelhead and bull trout recovery in the Yakima Basin. The Governor's Office is reviewing state agency budget proposals as it prepares the Governor's draft budget for submission to the state legislature in January, The programs that the Board highlighted are:

1) The state funding for the Yakima Basin Integrated Plan, via the Department of Ecology's Office of Columbia River;

2) the Recovery and Conservation Office's request for funding for the state's Salmon Recovery Funding Board program (which calls for an increase from $16 million per biennium to $55.3 million), and;

3) the Department of Ecology's Floodplain by Design Program, whose proposed funding includes $13.7 million for big floodplain projects in the Yakima Basin.

This is the time to let the Governor's Office know about what you think about state agency proposals for 2017-19 funding!
