Irrigators could share cost for YBIP

Water that could have supported thirsty crops in the Yakima Basin this summer slipped away during the rainy winter, running downstream since there was no more room in the region’s reservoirs to catch it.

Instead, the Yakima Basin’s agricultural economy is looking at drought losses the state has estimated as high as a billion dollars. The problem is that building additional water storage has a steep price tag, too.
