Salmon Recovery Grant Proposal Update

8/26/2014  By Darcy Batura - YBFWRB

We are pleased to announce that our 2014 SRFB local grant review process is complete. Our project sponsors worked hard to develop locally prioritized salmon recovery habitat projects that are supported by the local Technical and Citizen’s committees. In January of 2014, the Board issued a Request for Proposals for salmon habitat improvement projects in the Yakima Basin. Seventeen pre-proposals were submitted by the March 7 deadline. After meeting with the pre-proposal review committee, sponsors chose to develop full applications for 10 projects. Completed applications were due April 23, and local and state reviewers participated in site tours on May 14 and 15. Sponsors gave presentations to the TAG and CC on June 12. This process helps the project applicant to develop scientifically sound projects based on the extensive feedback received.

The Technical Advisory Group (TAG) met to review and ranking projects on July 10. The TAG’s proposed ranking and the notes of their meeting were then provided to the Citizen’s Committee, which met on July 29 to rate the projects based on the Citizen’s Committee (CC) criteria. The resulting project list was approved by our Board of Directors on August 7. The Yakima Basin Fish & Wildlife Recovery Board (Board) has advanced this recommended funding list to the State. Final grant decisions will be announced at the December Salmon Recovery Funding Board meeting in Olympia.
