State Capital Budget Update

8/1/2017  By Tricia Snyder

We've been getting a lot of questions about how the lack of a state capital budget impacts us. The short answer? New SRFB projects will not be funded until the capital budget is approved.

That being said, we are finalizing our ranked project list so that it is ready to fund as soon as a budget is passed. Work can continue on existing Salmon Recovery Funding Board (SRFB) projects. Our office's current operating contracts with the SRFB expire 08/31. Without a new capital budget, we won't be getting a new contract; the state can't even provide us the federal funds that come through Recreation and Conservation Office (RCO) without an authorization that is part of the budget.

The takeaway: we're working hard with RCO to come up with a plan to use existing funding to keep out doors open after August. We should be able to make it to January, if necessary, but with pretty stripped down operations.

If you have any questions on how this effects the 2017 SRFB grant round process, please call Tricia at 509-453-4104 ext. 2 or e-mail her at
